She directs the Creative Writing Program at the University of Miami and is core faculty and board member for Voices of Our Nation Arts Foundation. Her nonfiction work, Lola’s House: Filipino Women Living with War, documents the testimonies of Filipina “Comfort Women” and their fight for justice. Galang is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 2004 Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Awards Advancing Human Rights, the AWP Prize in the Novel, and the Global Filipino Award in Literature. She is the editor of Screaming Monkeys: Critiques of Asian American Images. Evelina Galang is author of Her Wild American Self, a collection of short stories, and the novels One Tribe and Angel de la Luna and the 5th Glorious Mystery. This live reading event is part of the Department of English’s Creative Writing Reading Series.
